CAMERON COUNTY ADOPTS $244 MILLION 2025-2026 BUDGET INCLUDING A
THIRD CONSECUTIVE PROPERTY TAX RATE REDUCTION, THIRD
CONSECUTIVE 5% SALARY INCREASE AND AN EXCEPTIONAL 10% SALARY
INCREASE FOR PEACE OFFICERS, DETENTION OFFICERS AND DISPATCHERS
Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino, Jr., and the Cameron County Commissioners’ Court have adopted the 2025-2026 fiscal year budget, which includes a third consecutive reduction in the county’s property tax rate. The newly approved tax rate of 0.424393 represents a quarter-cent
decrease from the previous year’s rate of 0.426893.
In addition to reducing the property tax rate, the Commissioners’ Court approved a compensation package totaling approximately $7.6 million for Cameron County employees, which includes:
• 10% salary increase for Peace Officers, Detention Officers and Dispatchers
• 5% salary increase for all non-law enforcement personnel
• Variable salary increases for all Assistant District Attorneys
• Increased County contribution towards employee health insurance
The Cameron County Commissioners’ Court also approved the creation of 11 new positions assigned to various departments which will help ensure county-owned facilities continue to operate efficiently and departments are able to provide necessary services to the public.
“The Commissioners’ Court action to reduce the property tax rate for a third consecutive year reflects our commitment to fiscal responsibility and supporting the economic well-being of our residents and property owners. Similarly, the Commissioners’ Court is committed to compensating
our hardworking staff competitively and has awarded all full-time county employees with a 5% salary increase for a third consecutive year. In a historic move, this budget also includes a special 10% salary increase for our hardworking Peace Officers, Detention Officers and Dispatchers,” said
Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino, Jr.
“I’m proud of the work this Commissioners’ Court has accomplished. We have lowered the tax rate again, we’ve increased employee salaries again, and our general fund and road and bridge fund reserves have increased to a level above and beyond ihe County’s policy requirement.
Cameron County is in great financial shape,” stated Trevino. “As we move into the next fiscal year, Cameron County will continue to work on and prioritize
road and drainage projects and will be ready to respond in the event Cameron County experiences a severe weather event or any other type of emergency. I will also ensure Cameron County continues to prioritize and advance the county’s $2 billion system of transportation projects investment that will continue to drive the long-term growth of Cameron County,” stated Trevino.
The 2025-2026 fiscal year begins October 1,2025.
