Cameron County Commissioners’ Court Unanimously Advances Regional Master Drainage Plan Application
On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, the Cameron County Commissioners’ Court took a significant step toward addressing regional drainage infrastructure by unanimously voting to submit an application to the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) for the development of a Regional Master Drainage Plan for Cameron, Willacy and Hidalgo Counties.
This decision follows a formal notification received on April 30th from the TWDB, confirming that the Regional Master Drainage Plan Development Project for Cameron and Hidalgo Counties has been included in the prioritized list of projects. This prioritization grants Cameron County the opportunity to submit a comprehensive application for funding. The unanimous vote by the Commissioners’ Court represents the initial phase of this process, signaling Cameron County’s firm commitment to securing the necessary resources for this vital regional initiative.
“This is a crucial step forward in addressing our region’s drainage infrastructure challenges. A multijurisdictional approach is essential to effectively tackle the issues within our shared watersheds in Cameron, Hidalgo, and Willacy Counties. The success of this project reflects years of regional collaboration among counties and local governments across the Rio Grande Valley. Congratulations to all who contributed to making this vision a reality,” stated Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr.
