CAMERON COUNTY PROVIDES UPDATE ON SEVERE WEATHER AND
WIND GUST IMPACTS

On Saturday morning, May 9, 2026, Cameron County experienced severe weather conditions, including wind gusts exceeding 70 miles per hour. These conditions resulted in damage to roads and homes along US 281 (Military Highway) and in the Green Valley Farms area.

As a result, power lines were knocked down, partially obstructing the roadway. There have also been reports of injuries and several homes sustaining damage in the affected area. Cameron County Emergency Management is currently responding, assessing the full extent of the damage, and coordinating with local municipalities to identify affected areas.

Residents are urged to exercise caution, avoid the affected area, and remain alert for any road closures or hazards caused by debris and downed utility lines. AEP is currently working to remove downed power lines in the affected areas and recommends avoiding the following locations:

  • FM 510 and FM 803
  • FM 510 and Green Valley Farms south to FM 2893

Please continue to follow guidance from local authorities and Emergency Management officials.
