CONSTRUCTION IMPROVEMENTS TO BEGIN ON CAMERON COUNTY
BEACH ACCESS NO. 3

Cameron County is pleased to announce the construction of improvements at Cameron County Beach Access No.3 located at 28495 State Park Road 100-North, on South Padre Island just north of Andy Bowie Park. Funding for the improvements was made possible through a donation of $4,400,000.00 from SpaceX. A ground-breaking ceremony is scheduled for Monday, August 11, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

The new improvements include an elevated plaza structure with two pavilions, picnic tables, restrooms, ADA parking area with environmentally friendly lighting, BBQ pit areas, landscaping, a new toll booth and other improvements. The parking area will be constructed using a pervious paving system which will reduce storm water run-off by allowing rainwater to infiltrate through the pavement resulting in cleaner run-off water making. These improvements will compliment the newly constructed ADA dune walkover structures with rinse stations which was funded through a grant from the Texas General Land Office Coastal Management Program and Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act of 2006. The Texas General Land Office also funded the design and engineering plans for this improvement project.

“Our Cameron County Coastal Parks on South Padre Island attract countless visitors to the area and provide a wide range of amenities and recreational activities. I’m pleased to see the vision of Cameron County Beach Access No. 3 becoming reality, and equally proud of the improvements we’ve made across all our Coastal Parks in recent years. I’m eager to get this project started so our own Cameron County families and visitors from all over can begin to enjoy the park’s new amenities,” said Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr.

“I’m excited about the upcoming enhancements at Cameron County Beach Access No.3. The upgrades to this popular beach access area will bring lasting benefits for children and families for many years to come and will also complement our existing coastal park system very well. A big thank you to SpaceX and the Texas General Land Office for your partnership with this project.” said Commissioner Sofia C. Benavides.

“The Parks & Recreation Department is dedicated to improving the quality of life for visitors by upgrading our community and coastal parks to ensure they are safer, more welcoming places for everyone to enjoy. I’m excited about the upcoming improvements at Cameron County Beach Access No. 3.”said Joe E. Vega, Parks Director.

Weather permitting, the construction should be complete by early to mid-Summer of 2026. Considering these construction activities, Cameron County Beach Access No. 3 will remain temporarily closed until construction is completed.

The architectural firm working on this project is Gomez, Mendez, Saenz, Inc., the engineering firm is Green, Rubiano, & Associates Inc. and the general contractor selected for the construction is A&I Custom Manufacturing, LLC.
