COUNTY JUDGE EDDIE TREVIÑO, JR. EXPRESSES GRATITUDE TO GOVERNOR ABBOTT AND SENATOR CORNYN FOR FEDERAL AID REQUEST
Today, County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr., extended his heartfelt thanks to Governor Greg Abbott and U.S. Senator John Cornyn requesting federal aid for the residents of Cameron County affected by the devastating floods that impacted Cameron County and the Rio Grande Valley in late March of 2025.
“The record-setting rain amounts and associated floods from last month brought immense challenges to our community, damaged homes, and disrupted lives. Governor Abbott and Senator Cornyn’s leadership in advocating for federal assistance serves as hope for those affected by this disaster. Their commitment to ensuring our county receives the necessary financial resources to recover and rebuild is deeply appreciated,” stated County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr.
According to a press release issued by Governor Greg Abbott, the federal aid, if approved, would assist with “expenses such as temporary housing, emergency home repairs, uninsured and underinsured personal property losses, disaster legal services, disaster unemployment assistance, and medical, dental, and funeral expenses caused by the [flooding] disaster”.
“Immediately after the rain events, Cameron County staff worked quickly to open an emergency operations center, move standing flood waters with pumps, rescue residents trapped by flood waters, bring food and other resources to residents and spray for mosquitos in a strategic manner. We worked with our neighboring municipalities to lend a helping hand. Now, Governor Greg Abbott and Senator Cornyn are helping by advocating to bring financial resources to those affected. This is a testament to what we can achieve when local, state, and federal leaders work together for the well-being of our communities. I am grateful for their partnership and dedication to the people of Cameron County,” stated County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr.
