VITA Program
In a three part collaborative between the Cameron County Juvenile Justice Department, Harlingen Outreach Center, and United Way – the organizations successfully came together to assist families with their taxes. The VITA Program created by the IRS is a “Volunteer Income Tax Assistance” program that certifies sites with (volunteers) trained and certified tax professionals that offer free tax preparation and electronic filing for families with a yearly household income of $51,000 or less.
Wellness Walk
Also part of “Wellness in the Workplace”, is the Department’s Wellness Walk. Every day (employees who are available) are encouraged to take a break from their workday, put on a pair of tennis shoes, and WALK… A healthy organization, is a happy organization.
