The Animal Control component is responsible for the management of various tasks, including responding to incidents of animal bites, enforcing relevant regulations, and collecting stray and unwanted animals. The scope of services provided by this component encompasses the following areas:
Animal Bites
In its capacity as the Local Rabies Control Authority (LRCA), the Cameron County Animal Control responds to cases involving animal bites. Animals involved in such incidents are quarantined in accordance with state and county regulations.

Stray, injured, and Unwanted Animals
The management of stray, injured, and unwanted animals in rural Cameron County constitutes a significant responsibility. Animal Control Officers respond to requests from residents seeking assistance with the removal of domestic animals, particularly dogs and cats, from their properties. Officers conduct patrols in areas identified as problematic due to the presence of stray or loose animals and engage with the community to underscore the importance of adhering to established state and county animal control regulations.

Investigation
Animal Control Officers are tasked with investigating all reported incidents of potential animal cruelty and animal hoarding associated with domestic pets. When deemed necessary, compliance notices are issued to ensure that all parties comply with established guidelines and regulations.
