Environmental Health Program
Eating & Drinking (Food Service)
We are pleased to offer our assistance as you initiate the process of establishing a restaurant or mobile food unit in Cameron County. Our department is committed to promoting business growth, recognizing that job creation within our community significantly enhances the overall quality of life for residents. In support of individuals and entities intending to open a food establishment or mobile unit, the Cameron County Environmental Health Program has established a structured process designed to foster your confidence throughout the application process.

The Eating and Drinking (Food Service) component oversees inspections, permitting, investigations, and enforcement of state and county guidelines pertinent to food service establishments and mobile food units. This program undertakes several critical functions, which include the following:
Inspections
A minimum of two routine inspections are conducted annually for all food facilities. During these inspections, inspectors emphasize the prevention of foodborne illnesses and provide education to food facility operators regarding appropriate food handling techniques.

Permitting
Our office is responsible for the issuance and renewal of permits for both new and existing food service establishments, as well as mobile food units. This process also encompasses the provision of temporary permits for local city events. –

Enforcement
In instances of non-compliance, matters may be referred to the local justice of the peace for appropriate legal action to ensure adherence to all applicable state and county regulations. Rest assured that our Health Inspectors are prepared to guide you through the application requirements, thereby facilitating the advancement of your business objectives.
