Market Day at the STEC
The South Texas Ecotourism Center, 501 W. Hwy 100, Laguna Vista, Texas will be having two events this weekend. On Friday, May 1 from 7: 40 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. STEC will be open for visitors to see the Full Flower Moon. The Flower Moon rises on May 1, and it’s the smallest Full Moon of the year. But you won’t be able to tell. The Moon is near apogee, its farthest point from Earth, making it about 5% smaller and 10% dimmer than average. Compared to a supermoon, it’s 14% smaller and 30% dimmer. The difference sounds dramatic, but without a side-by-side photograph, the human eye can’t detect it. The Flower Full Moon is the full moon in May, named for the abundance of flowers that bloom during this period, signaling peak spring and the start of summer. It symbolizes fertility, growth, and the blossoming of ideas. Culturally, this name originated with the Algonquin people, while others call it the Budding Moon or Hare Moon.
On May 2, the STEC will be having its Spring Market Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be music, plants, food, jewelry, and information booths. Free admission.
We look forward to having you join us at the STEC!
