In 2023, Cameron County Public Health was awarded a 5-year funded initiative that aims to develop a county wide system in which will establish community-clinical linkages, closing gaps and develop a strategic plan to address Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia in Cameron County through the Cameron County BOLD Coalition. CCPH BOLD aims to implement strategies that promote brain health, raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia (ADRD), and prioritize risk reduction strategies among Cameron County resident

Mission: The mission of the Cameron County Healthy Brain and Aging Program is to develop an equitable Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia [ADRD] infrastructure, through a collaborative public health initiative, that will preserve, protect, and promote the well-being of all Cameron County residents living with or caregiving for someone with ADRD.
Vision: To build a community where all Cameron County residents have access to the resources they need to age healthy and with dignity.
Goals
- Increase the educational awareness of risk reduction and early detection of ADRD among our community members throughout Cameron County.
- Partner with local healthcare professionals to develop a culturally and linguistically appropriate ADRD screening and diagnostic service system for Cameron County residents.
- Increasing the performance and documentation of cognitive decline among primary care, internal medicine, and family practice health professionals.
- Increase community participation in Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia research/clinical trials.
- Collaborate with academic institutions and community-based organizations to increase community recruitment and participation efforts.
- Increase collaboration with local healthcare to identify and overcome barriers in care among PLWD and their caregivers.
- Increase access to ADRD screening and diagnostic services for our community members.
- Partner with policy advocates and coalition members to create/strengthen aging-friendly communities that will be inclusive and supportive of not only the person living with dementia but of their caregivers as well.
