Coronavirus

Coronavirus is a large family of viruses that are commonly found in humans and many animal species.  This virus is capable of animal to human transmission (known as zoonosis), however this is a rare event.  Examples of this process include MERS-CoV, SARS-CoV and this new virus SARS-CoV-2.

This novel Coronavirus, and its associated disease COVID-19, first appeared in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China in late December.  Since its arrival COVID-19 has spread to many international locations, including the United States and Texas.  Due to its increasing dissemination Health and Human Services Secretary Alex M. Azar II declared a public health emergency for the USA.
