The UNIT (Unified Narcotics Intelligence Taskforce) led by Commander John E. Gonzalez is an intelligence investigative support initiative spearheaded by HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) that provides investigative, analytical, and intelligence support to multiple local, state, and federal agencies. The unit’s objective is to support agencies that will ultimately dismantle and eliminate criminal organizations.
The STX HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) mission is to reduce drug availability by dismantling Drug Trafficking Organizations or reducing drug trafficking and its harmful consequences by creating intelligence driven task forces that aim to assist local, state, and federal agencies.
The UNIT assists over 50 law enforcement agencies within the Cameron County area, as well as other counties within the RGV.
The types of crimes the UNIT covers are:
- Narcotics
- Money Laundering
- Human Trafficking
- Homicides
- Gang Violence
- Any Other Major Crimes
