PROFESSIONAL OVERVIEW:

He served as a member of the San Benito CISD School Board for 12 years, including six years as Board President. During his tenure, he led efforts to integrate technology into classrooms and successfully helped pass a bond initiative to modernize existing schools and construct new campuses. He also leveraged state funding opportunities to maximize district improvements.

Since his first term in 2000, Commissioner David A. Garza has distinguished himself as a dedicated advocate for the residents of Cameron County Precinct 3. His steadfast leadership has resulted in significant advancements in road infrastructure, strengthened governmental transparency, promoted sound governance practices, and fostered sustainability initiatives throughout the community.

KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • Road Infrastructure Improvements: Led major roadway enhancement projects to improve connectivity, accessibility, and public safety within communities and surrounding colonias.
  • Sustainability Leadership: Championed initiatives such as the South Texas Ecotourism Center, promoting green infrastructure, environmental education, and long-term ecological stewardship.
  • Environmental Advocacy: Served as a founding member of the Dust Control Committee under the Bahia Grande Restoration Partnership, contributing to nationally recognized conservation efforts honored by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
  • Regional Transportation Advancement: Active member of the I-69 Alliance, supporting statewide efforts to expand and modernize the interstate transportation network across Texas.

PERSONAL LIFE:

Born and raised in San Isidro, Texas, Commissioner Garza is a devoted public servant and accomplished entrepreneur. He owned and operated The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy from 1980 to 2022, serving the community with professionalism and care for more than four decades.

He is married to Dorothy Moody-Garza, and together they have three children and six grandchildren. A man of strong faith, Commissioner Garza remains an active parishioner, serving both Queen of the Universe Church and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in San Benito, Texas.
