Cameron County is committed to ensuring that our websites and digital services are accessible and usable by all members of the public, regardless of disability or assistive technology.
Our ongoing efforts follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), which define standards that help make websites more accessible and inclusive.
We are achieving WCAG 2.1 Level A and Level AA standards throughout our public websites, and our work continues as we enhance accessibility for all residents.
Current Conformance Status
Cameron County strives to maintain substantial conformance with WCAG 2.1 A/AA and continues addressing remaining issues as part of an ongoing improvement process supported by Siteimprove.
Substantial conformance means that most content and functionality meet WCAG requirements, with a small number of known limitations still in progress.
Accessibility is monitored routinely, and fixes are implemented as issues are identified.
Our Accessibility Approach
To support accessibility, Cameron County has implemented:
- Automated Monitoring & Accessibility Audits
Continuous scanning of website content, structure, and code to identify WCAG errors and improvement opportunities. - Ongoing Manual Testing & Remediation
Review of templates, navigation, color contrast, headings, alternative text, form labels, link purpose, and keyboard accessibility. - Staff Training & Best Practices
Departments are encouraged to follow accessible formatting guidelines when developing content and documents.
Our goal is to correct accessibility issues as quickly as possible and reduce the introduction of new barriers.
Known Limitations & Alternatives
Despite our best efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible:
PDF and Document Accessibility
Many documents are supplied by individual departments and may not meet accessibility standards when first published.
Upon request, we can assist in providing an accessible version of a document.
Processing times may vary based on document complexity and departmental response times.
As part of our ongoing improvement efforts, Cameron County is working directly with departments that publish high volumes of documents or whose content receives significant public traffic.
We are providing guidance and training on how to produce accessible documents, encouraging departments to submit updated versions when necessary, and helping evaluate whether certain documents should remain published, be archived, or be removed if no longer required.
This collaborative effort aims to reduce accessibility barriers at the source and improve future compliance.
If you encounter inaccessible content, please notify us using the contact information below.
