Mission Statement: The Health Education & Promotion component within Cameron County Public Health (CCPH) serves to provide community outreach and education, encourage stakeholder engagement, and work alongside community partners to help promote and protect the health of Cameron County residents. Under the direction of the Health Administrator and/or designee, the Health Education and Promotion team is made up of a Health Educator and two Community Health Workers (CHWs)/Promotores.

Our Services

Community Presentations & Trainings

Health Education and Promotion staff works closely with non-profit organizations, public school districts, universities, community colleges, and various community entities to help raise awareness and bring education to Cameron County residents. Activities conducted by the Health Education and Promotion team include, but are not limited to attending and hosting health fairs, providing presentations, and assisting in coordinating and supporting educational conferences and trainings for the general public, lay workers and professionals.

Cameron County Public Health Promotores Task Force

As an extension of the Health Education and Promotion team, CCPH developed a Cameron County Public Health Promotores Task Force made up of local CHWs to help serve as public health advocates for their local communities on emerging public health issues that may arise in Cameron County, such as Zika.

Public Health Activities & Response

Aside from the day to day activities, the Health Education and Promotion team also serves to support each program within the department the help carry out any ongoing public health campaigns and preparedness activities, including response efforts as identified by the department.
